Question

My daughter has what appears to be dry patches only ...

Sent to Health Experts July 10, 2007 8:47 p.m.

My daughter has what appears to be dry patches only on her face. She says that they don't itch. They start out a little red with dry scaly skin over it and it is usually in a circle shape. Very destinctive when the breakout first appears, maybe even a little raised. If left alone, the reddness usually goes away, but it leaves the appearence of a white spot as if it is still there without the reddness or scaly skin. Not really sure what it is or what I should do. Could you please help with this problem?

Optional Information:
Female, Age: 7, North Carolina

Already Tried:
It is pretaining to my daughter and I have only tried cortizone.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

this can be one of two things. since its on her face its more likely an atopic dermatitis. espciailly since you mention it is dry, this can be from a reaction to anything from foods, contacts, or allergy.
the other possibility is that its fungal. the only reason i mention this is because you said there remains a white spot after the initial problem. its less common to get fungal infections on the face but certainly possible, especially if shes a child.
the problem is the treatment of each is different. fungal requires medicated cream and atopic dermatits a cortisone cream (which could increase growth of fungi).
therefore the only way to know for sure is to see her dr in person for a diagnosis.

Thank you for the answer. That helps alot. My daughter has allergies so I am leaning toward atopic dermatitis, however, I have tried cortizone and it clears the scaley patch but another one may appear later. Does this mean I may need something stronger?
