To whom it may concern:
My husband had a vasectomy reversal September 17, 2004 and we have had no success in getting pregnant. I am guessing you would like a little more history. Well before the reversal and the oringinal vasectomy which took place a year prior to the reversal, we had 4 boy's together withing 5 year's and we had the vasectomy and so obviously we changed our mind and had the reversal, so I have done several ovaulation kit's and have ovulated around day 14 and have had relation's with no success,we have had sperm count's, 24million, and other time's different depending on how many time's we have had relation's. Most people including the reversal doctor who also performed the vasectomy said it only take's one sperm, and when we recently called to find out option's other then intercourse he said we could take clomid, meaning my husband could. Well we do not want to be a guiniea pig and take drug's so is there a possibility we will get pregnantat some point. Some encouragement would be great as I am praying for twin's(girl's) thank you-Becky M.

Hi,
What your doctor has suggested is worth a try!
He is NOT experimenting with you, there are studies that have tried CLOMID in males to induce pregnancy.
Some men with relatively mild sperm abnormalities have been treated with clomiphene citrate (tablets) in an attempt to improve the semen. According to published medical literature, Clomid for the male sometimes can improve the sperm count or motility. However, well-controlled medical studies have shown no increase in pregnancy rates.

So I think that you absolutely RIGHT in asking for encouragement :) and hoping for the best....maybe you ought to get CLOMID too if you are looking for multiple conceptions (twins) ;)

I am more looking for the odd's of getting pregnant and how long after a reversal are the statisitic's of pregnancy's when most people conceive assuming both partner's are able such as us and how much does sperm count matter in determing pregnancy, because from what I have read teenage boy's have a 500 million sperm count and is that normal, I want to just keep trying and not use clomid, more info please, you only told me what my own doctor told us thank's Customer (name blocked for privacy)

The success rate varies based on several factors. Time from the vasectomy certainly helps to predict how likely it would be to be able to put the two ends of the vas deferens back together, however, getting return of sperm into the ejaculate does not guarantee pregnancy, so pregnancy rates typically vary from 30 to 70 percent, whereas patency rate, that is the return of sperm, can be as high as 95 percent.
