I am a 27 year old caucasion female, height 5'7, was between 160-175 lbs, muscular as involved in rigorous weight training. In either late August or September I began taking birth control pills. I began taking wellbutrin XL 150mg once a day starting October 13, 2005 for depression and ADD. I noticed results -more focused, concentrated, able to complete tasks more easily and was very happy taking this. On December 5, 2005, I tested positive for mononeucleosis. Just before i tested positive for mono my food intake increased. After I tested positive, I moved to my parents, December 15, 2005, where my diet significantly shifted, ate small portion of vegetable diet and i lost weight. As time passed, I realized my heart rate was above average, prone to more anxious thoughts, appear to have gum sensitivity.
Then, on December 25, 2005 I felt the following painful sensations all over my body (back, legs, stomach, chest, arms, pubic area, head, and etc.) with no particular order to the pain: pins and needles, tingling, and circulation of heat and or cold, muscle spasms. These pains can occur when I stand still, lye in bed, or move. When I fall asleep, the pain does not wake me up.
The psychiatrist thought it was possible it could be related to the medication but to keep taking it. I told him it scared me to take it so he said it was fine to get off of it. I stopped taking the wellbutrin December 27, 2005. after stopping the wellbutrin my eating habits became poor and I ate more than appropriate.
The pain persisted so Jan. 3 after speeking with a pharmacist who suggested it might be part to due the hormonal medication as it might be blood clot related and etc... I stopped taking the birth control.
I am concerned. It is Jan. 8, 2006, 13 days after stopping the wellbutrin and 5 days after stopping the birth control and I don't feel a significant difference. The pain can be overwhelming.
Do you think it is related to the medication, diet, or is there another health concern? Do you think it was a mistake to stop taking birth control? I am not in a financial position to seek medical attention, and I am scared.
