My grandson was physically abused at the age of 5

My grandson was physically abused at the age of 5 months old. He is now living with me. He very rarely sleeps through the night, he wakes up two to three times a night crying but is still asleep. Could he possibly remember the incidents. I am told that he used to sleep through the night before he was injured. He is now seven months old
