Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),
Unless you live near a high traffic area or are working around such fumes (garage, car mechanic, working in traffic, boating...especially if you are wake surfing, or any other area where there are exhaust fumes) there should be no reason for you to smell these odors. If you do work in these conditions, the odors may stick to your clothing giving you the sense that the odor is with you all the time.
Just to be safe, it may be a good idea to have your physician check this out for you as these fumes can be toxic. It is more likely that you have some type of sinus infection that is mocking a smell similar to exhaust fumes. Your physician can test you for exposure to the toxic fumes, and check you for a possible sinus infection.
If you are exposed to the work conditions I mentioned above, I suggest providing better ventilation and changing your work clothes after being exposed to these fumes.
