Dear Sir or Madam,,

I am a 28-year-old male. Over the last several months, after I masturbate, pain develops on the lower right side of the shaft and extends past the epidermis deeper down the shaft. My concern is that I have now caused severe scar tissue to develop will slow down or stop blood flow for an erection to develop. Is this a valid concern? Anything I can do now to heal/fix what over-strain or scaring I have caused?

Concerned in Seattle,
Chris

Dear Chris,

First of all, take it easy and slow down. You may be masturbating too frequently and to forcefully.

What seems to have happened is, that you have apparently torn or caused stress and strain in the tunica albuginea, the thick fibrous coat surrounding the corpora cavernosum tissue that produces an erection.

I do not think you have caused "scar tissue" in your penis. While this is not a common injury, it will heal. It is caused by both masturbation and sexual intercourse. Some people refer to this as a fractured penis. Most cases (75 per cent) occur on one side, 25 per cent affect both sides and in 10 per cent the tear extends into the urethra.

Serious side effects and worsening of the injury may result if you do not seek medical attention.

While you are waiting to see your physician, you can treat your condition symptomatically with cold compresses, and rest. NO sex, until you see the doctor. (no masturbating either)
