Sent to Health Experts February 13, 2006 5:23 p.m.

I had bilateral knee replacement 1/5/06. I was in excellent health, am fit and 54 years of age. Surgeon released me from hospital early I was doing so well. Went home, became severely anemic from surgery, went into congestive heart failure, had to be rushed to ER, blood transfused, given iron, B-12 etc. I was supposed to be back working some now. I cannot even walk across the room without being tired. I go one place and have to come home and take a nap. Is this fatigue common with major surgery and complication or should I have my blood rechecked or something else? (Last test, I was not anemic anymore - RBC up to 13.5 - was at 7).
Please advise.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

the surgeon should be interested in your life and complaints because he is the reason you went into congestive heart failure. He should be giving you lots of attention so you don't sue him . Your fatique may be from deconditioning. I would have the blood rechecked to be sure. Your medical doctor needs to check you over and make sure your count is where it should be and your heart is how it should be. Only when you know these are fine can you blame it on deconditioning. Then physical therapy needs to get you back to baseline.

What is deconditioning exactly? I was active, energetic almost to a fault and healthy before this surgery. Thank you all.
