Last night, I was shaving my legs and my hand got in the way. The razor sliced off about 20% of my fingernail all the way down to the nail bed. The nail bed has an incised wound in the area where the nail was sliced off. There is no bruising or redness anywhere else on the nail. The affected area is the center top of the nail bed. There was quite a bit of bleeding at the time of the injury, but the bleeding has stopped. Does this require medical treatment, or will basic home wound care suffice?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

As long as you keep the area clean (wash with antibacterial soap) and pat dry and apply some neosporin (or there type of antibiotic cream) this will be fine. All you can do is wait for it to heal. If it becomes really red or starts to seep out pus, then you should have it looked at, you may need a course of antibiotics. But for now, keep the area clean and do the above and withing a few days it will heal over and your nail will also grow as well.
