A license legally required in order to treat patients is issued and required by the state in which the doctor practices medicine. A specialty certificate is issued by a medical specialty certifing board, which is vaild nationwide.

Although certification is not required for a physican to practice medicine most hospitals require that at least a certain % be board certified.

You can go to

www.abms.com

to look up and see if the Doctor in question is licensed and or certified. Hope this helps Tonya
