Hello,
A year ago, my daughter began using methamphetamine and was addicted for instead exiled herself at home to get off of it. For approximately 10 wks, she did not go out or see anyone socially. She was drug tested on a few occassions since that time, and I believe she is free of it. However, since that time, she has not been the same person. She use to have goals and now has none. She hasn't kept a part time job more than a few weeks, she won't stay in school, she has poor coping skills and in general she is not thriving as an individual or like any of her peers. She has lost all her friends and takes up with anyone who will give her the time of day. Have you ever seen this as a result of substance abuse?

As I recall methamphetamines are uppers. They can cause you to feel you're in control and on top of the world. During the withdrawl period you have no energy physically or mentally. This period of withdrawal feelings can range from extreme fatigue to some suicidal tendencies. It is probably a good idea to ask your doctor for some advise. Create some positive routines in your daughter's live. Eat a nutritional diet with lots of protein, get adequate rest and find lots of physical activities that will distract her from these withdrawals and feelings of loss.

Reply to Donald K. Leow's Post: Regarding the advice for good nutrition and rest - that has already been done and she insists that the drug is no longer a part of her life. It has been over 8 months, and she can't seem to get back to any type of normal life for a girl her age. In general, she is making other poor life choices and unfortunately, I have not been very patient with her. I consulted our family doctor, and was not given any advice. We live in the Sacramento region - is it possible to get a referral to a therapist who works with young adults. We tried counseling before, but the person she saw was not a good match.

Regards,
