  • Also after checking for drug interactions: As I'm sure you may know already these medications your husband is taking shouldn't be mixed with alcohol.

  • Foods that have a high fiber content may interfere with the absorption of doxepin from the stomach. As a result, less doxepin would be available for the body to use and blood levels could become too low. This could make the drug less effective. High fiber foods include fruits, vegetables, and grains (bread, cereal, rice, and pasta). Let your doctor know if you have recently changed your diet to include more high fiber foods while you are taking doxepin.

  • Darvocet may block the breakdown of doxepin by the liver. As a result, blood levels of doxepin may become elevated and this could increase the risk for side effects.

  • Darvocet can increase the concentration of Xanax in the body potentially causing unwanted side effects.

I don't know the full reason why your husband is taking all the meds he is, however I would take all the meds he does take and have a talk with his doctor, to see if they are all necessary. Perhaps even a 2nd opinion as well. For example: Darvocet can cause confusion. Everybody reacts differently to medication, so he may need to be left on a few meds and slowly re-introduced the other medication to see if his condition is related to the medication or something else. So do follow back up with either his current doctor or a new doctor for a 2nd opinion.
