Question

silly worries

Sent to Health Experts July 16, 2006 2:12 a.m.

Im sorry for the question but i excesive compulsive and worry about silly stuff, pretty much just wanna know if theres reason to worries or if its one of my silly rants. Im worried about AIDS i have been with my partner for 2 and a half years. Prior she had sevral sexual partenrs a few unprotected. She only perfomed regular straight intercourse. No oral or anal. There really is not shes has gained lots of weight since we got together do to fact she moved in with me and we started eating fast food. The only signs im concerned about are a few boils that appear on her inner thighs(not close to the vagina) at the bottom of her breast, and somtimes on her stomach(they seems to appear on the more fatty areas) which are puss filled they go away within a week and are not common. And her period was 2 weeks late. I have not had any signs really. Every now and then i get small pains between my legs but im pretty sure thats muscle or no swelling> We are pretty healty and barely get sick. I dont have alot of money to get tests on us for my silly worries. We both have seemed to be normal besides what i have said. After 2 and a half years do you think theres reasons to worry with what i have told you.

Hi,

From your description of your partners boils, I do not think you need to worry about AIDS.

The HIV virus that causes AIDS suppresses the immune system of the body making it vulnerable to various infections. These infections cannot be treated easily as the body is too weak to fight them. You have said that your partners boils go away within the week - this would not have happened if she had had the virus. The boils would have increased in size and become more severe and would have needed high dose antibiotics to go away.

I suspect that she has been sweating a lot ever since she put on weight. This sweat blocks the pores of the skin leading to the formation of pus filled boils.

Since she is 2 weeks late with her period, perhaps it would be better to get a pregnancy test.

Since you have been 2 and a half years together without any other signs of AIDS (e.g. sudden loss of weight, acute diarrhoea, chronic cough or sore throat etc.) I do not believe either of you are suffering from AIDS.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I am glad I could help.

No, marijuana and alcohol use will not cause AIDS as such but they do tend to weaken the body somewhat. It will cause more infections as you have already seen - pus filled blisters from time to time. Stress will also weaken the immune system making her more prone to infections as well as irregular menstruation.

I hope that helped.

Thank you.

o sorry once again i was actually refering to the the missed period on the whole alchol and drug thing. I know the only drug use you need to worry about aids is with needles. Could that have been a factor in the missed period. I come up with medical problems in my head alot and last time i thought she had cancer cause of the missed period, since she bleed twice between them which she refeered to as spotting. Sorry for keeping you so long but i figure i should ask whats on my head since you seem very knowlagble. Shes only 20 btw. Besides this i have one more question she has a small lump that kinnda fells under the skin. It shirnks to basically nothing and sometimes seems to get irrotated and swell up a bit to about the size of a small mosquito bit and it hurts her. It grows for like 3 days and goes back down and does not come back for awhile she says the more she drinks it seems to get smaller. Its located kinnda in the vagina area on the right side above the vagina almost near the pelvic bone and right leg. She thinks it might be like a blood clot or something

Hi,

I believe that it is the stress (which you mentioned earlier) that caused her to miss her periods for 2 months. Since she is having her periods now, I would not worry too much about it. The spotting could also be due to the stress.

As for the lump, I think it is an infected lymph node that occurs when she gets the boils on the legs. A lymph node in that area drains a fluid called lymph from the legs to the body. If any infected area is on the legs, the same bacteria also reaches the lymph nodes and it swells up. Do notice if this swelling occurs at the same time as the boils on her legs - this would be confirmatory.

I would not worry too much about it however, since it goes down by itself. She can take a pain reliever like Ibuprofen (500 mg twice daily after food) if it gets too painful.

i hope this helps.

Your Question. Experts Answer You ASAP!

also you mentioned chronic cough which she does have but she smokes alot and how often would a sore throat have to occure to be considered a sign. cause i get a server sore throat every now and then ;for a few days maybe twice a year i figured it just a regular thing though once maybe 10 months ago it was so bad and swollen for a few hours the hangy thing (forget the medical term for it)was laying on my tounge but it went away shorly after. Im sorry for all the questions and will tip nicely for all the time of yours i took would just like to get all this stuff off my head and end my worrying. That lymph nod also would not be a sign of aids cause i have read swollen lymph nodes are a sign. This is my last question

Hi,

You are welcome to ask me anything you want and clear up your worries.

A person who has AIDS would not recover spontaneously from any infections like chronic cough or swollen lymph nodes. He or she would need to take strong antibiotics as well as other drugs. Since both of you have recoverd from the cough and sore throat (even when they recur) i do not suspect AIDS. A sore throat would be considered a sign only if it does not heal.

About the lymph node - swollen lymph nodes are a sign of AIDS only when they occur in response to an infection that is not controlled. in your case, the lymph node clears up by itself. So I would not worry about it.

I hope that helped.

Hi,

No, it makes no difference. HIV is the virus that causes the disease called AIDS - so it is all the same.
