Pain in my BONES
Sent to Health Experts July 26 06:52 PM

I’m a 47 year old white female. Approximately 18 months ago I was diagnoses with a possible thyroid issue. My body is indicating to thyroid that I need more thyroid, but my brain is saying give me the minimum amount of thyroid. My Dr. does not understand why there is a conflict between the brain and the body messages. Approximately six weeks ago, my feet, ankles and lower legs experienced extreme swelling. I went to medical emergency and I was put on a low dosage of Lasic (water pill). On the following day, I consulted with my family physician; he indicated to me that my entire lower body was retaining water. At that time he placed my on 40 milligrams of Lasic along with potassium. Several weeks had passed before the swelling subsided. Two weeks ago, I returned to the Dr with pain in my feet and ankles. My Dr. is continuing the Lasic program, but he has also put me on a low dosage of thyroid medication, approximately two weeks ago. The last 10 days I have been suffering from pain in the BONES of my lower leg, ankles and feet. Based upon the information that you have, can we dismiss premature MS?

Any advice that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello Ma'am,

The principal causes of edema/swelling are:
1.heart failure
2.kidney failure
3.hepatic/liver faliure

It can also occur as a result drug reaction and has been seen with lasix with NSAIDs which are used as pain killers.

Other causes include lympahtic obstruction and idiopathic(unknown) causes where diuretic induced edema is also encountered.Diuretic in your case is lasix. But in your case The principal causes of edema would play an important role rather than the other causes.

For bone pain a detailed blood report I feel is required to check for the levels of different electrolytes including calcium, potassium and magnesium which would point out the imbalances if any.

An endocrinologist is the best person to guide you with an overall view towards thyroid imabalances/edema as well as the bone pain.

Hope this information helps you.
