Mental health

My father use to be a normal 54 years old, hes had a history of using Heroin in the past, he is also a diabetic, has hepatitis, and kidney and liver problems. A couple of days ago he wandered off from home and disappeared for a day, we got worried and went looking for him. We found my dad is a horrible state, he at first could not recognize us and then when he saw my mom he became scared of her as if he was a child screaming at the top of his lungs like he saw a monster. We took him to the ER, he was disoriented and was acting mentally as if he was 3 and we didnt understand why, we kept asking him what happened and where he was. He, at first, could not remember...but now...he explains to us that "a man took me" he said this man kept putting drugs in him over and over again and that when he told him no more he kept going and then the man threw him on to a road. He doesnt remember what happened in between the time the "man" injected heroin in him and when he was thrown on to a road...but he does begin to scream whenever a nurse draws blood from him hes terrified of everything. The doctors claim that my dad isnt the same anymore...that his old personality is gone...hes like a four-year old. They dont understand what caused it...could it be the tramatic experience he went through? or my other question is is it Alheimer? both his mom and dad had it....please get back to me anyone
