I have RA, OA, FMS, & degenerative facet disease. Everyday involves pain, however, for the most part, I get along with the help of meds, injections, rhizotomy, pool therapy, OMT's and a great medical team effort. Four months ago a new area popped up while packing to return home from a busy family weekend in Colorado. (L3-S1 with intense pain, literally dropping me to the bed) MRI showed bulging L3-4 and 5-6 with scattered bone spurring. Initial injections only put a dent in the pain. Blocks were successful, therefore a (R-side) rhizotomy was performed, past bilateral cervical rhizotomy's were successful. The L/S has not been a success story. I now walk with a cane, cannot sit for long, cannot walk very far, travel requires my seat to be reclined, balance is terrible, and the pain in my sacral area unrelenting. The weird thing is I have this constant feeling of "pressure" in the sacral area, when in the pool for PT it is even more intense.
There are times it feels like the sacral area could literally split in two. An EMG was ordered, all though the rhizotomy was performed on the right side, I could not lift my left leg on command, even though I thought I was. We are all puzzled, my return visit to the Pain Clinic is still 2 weeks away, any thoughts?
