I cut myself in the female genital area.
Sent to Health Experts September 28 02:45 AM

I cut myself in the female genital area. I was folding up a beach chair and it accidently struck me in the vaginal area. It appears to be a bad cut about an inch long vertical in between the delicate skin folds of the labia majora and minora (probably spelling all of this wrong). It has been bleeding very bright colored red blood from the cut if I remove pressure.   It does not appear to be a very deep cut. Do I need to seek medical attention and if not how can I treat it at home and stop the bleeding. I would obviously rather treat this at home if at all possible. I am most interested in stopping the bleeding.

Hello

If the bleeding does not stop even from pressure ,possibly you have injured some bleeder as this area is highly vascular and this needs some stitching done. You should seek medical advice for this.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: If I did indeed need stiches for this cut in the area it is located....how much time would I have before it would be too late to get them done? I would rather not go to the ER for this if I can safely wait until the morning and see my regular OB/GYN.

The cut is about 3/4 of an inch long....it's a vertical cut the is located in between the skin folds of the labia majora and minora....*I think that's what you call that area*

The skin there is very delicate and thin. I cannot tell the depth of the cut as I can't see it very well even in a mirror.

I have cleaned the area and applied neosporin to it. I am using sterile pads to apply pressure. If I spread the skin open to look at the cut the bleeding starts all over again.

The amount of bleeding is equivalent to drops of blood seeping out if I try to look at it. If I keep the skin closed and my legs pressed together the bleeding stops for the most part.

My main concern is just making sure this doesn't get infected.....and what to do if I can't stop the bleeding at home by myself.

The beach chair unfortunately hit me with some good force so there is swelling as well which isn't helping the matter.

It would be the equivalent of stepping on a rake in the yard and having it come up and smack you from the leverage of the motion. That is basically what happened with the chair.

Hope this helps......those are my main concerns.

Thanks

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: The bleeding has subsided a bit. It only starts up again when I move the skin in that area or move around too much.

Hello

Well in case the bleeding has subsided a bit you can wait for the morning but make it sure you dont move around.

Also if the bleeding does not stop even after pressure from sterile pad than get medical assistance. If bleeding has stopped from pressure from pads than possibly blood clotting may take place and you may not even require stitch .But in morning you must get it reviewed by your Gynaecologist.
