dnr in relation to the medical field, means do not resusitate. This is a decision made by some patients who, for whatever reasons do not wish artificial resusitation after their heart has stopped beating.

That is not to say that they will not get other forms of treatment, but once the heart stops the medical team are not allowed to override the statement/form that the patient has completed.
