My upper right thigh in the front has been sore and ...

Sent to Health Experts October 11, 2006 11:46 p.m.

My upper right thigh in the front has been sore and hurting for about 3 months. Sometimes when I have been sitting for over an hour, I will get up and my leg will give out or it will hurt so bad that I limp. Sometimes I just lay in bed at night and my thigh throbs.I was walking 2-3 miles a day but I have given this up. Please help me.
Thanks,
Sue

Hi Susan--I'm happy to help. Few Q's though:

-Any trauma/injury? (to that region)

-Any visible swelling/rash/bruise/discoloration in that area?

-Any other symptoms not mentioned yet?

After your reply, I'll gladly respond with my Expert Medical Opinion.

Thanks, -Dr. Steve

No trauma
No swelling
No discoloration
When my leg hurts after I have been sitting the limp will go away after I walk on it for awhile. It is at the point that it consistently either gives out or I limp after I have been sitting. I'm a principal and all my students are always asking me whats wrong. It is very noticeable

Hi Susan,

MOST LIKELY, this is a recurring soft tissue problem [i.e. such as recurring Muscle Spasms; or Inflammatory Tendonitis]. However, it COULD also be a more serious Neuromuscular problem (e.g. a type of muscular dystrophy); or even POSSIBLY a bone problem (such as bone cyst or bone tumor).

The ONLY accurate way to Dx this problem is to see an MD and get a detailed physical exam (esp. musculoskel. exam), along w/ Xrays of the leg; + possible Bone scan or MRI scan of that leg as well. Since it's already been 3 mos, I highly recommend you see an MD soon (within next week or so). Please update me on what transpires, okay?

Take care & Best Wishes,

-Dr. Steve
