Hello,
With no preexisting illness the risks are low,as any other medical procedure. The risks are classified as anesthetic risks, per-operative (during surgery) risks and post operative risks.
In the patients above 55-60 years of age, cardiac and pulmonary reserves (heart and lung) are slightly less than young adults, so they tolerate the high volume procedure in less efficient way than the young counterparts. But with modern anesthetic techniques this risk is minimal and in best hands and best centers almost negligible.
During surgery there is lot of fluid and electrolytes changes and metabolic changes in the body in high volume liposuction. Again older age group, compared to young population are slightly prone for electrolyte imbalances and metabolic abnormalities.
Post operative risks like infection, seroma formation, skin necrosis, etc are slightly higher in your age group.
But bottom line is safety factors: Major complications following large volume liposuction tend to be rare and can be minimized by adhering to the 5 pillars of safety (safe surgeon, safe anesthesiologist, safe facility, safe coworkers, properly selected patient). The incidence of pulmonary embolus, deep venous thrombosis, major infection, penetration injuries, skin or soft tissue necrosis, bleeding, pulmonary edema, hypovolemic shock, fat emboli, drug toxicity (epinephrine or lidocaine), unplanned blood transfusion, and mortality and morbidity is uniformly low or absent in almost every large series of patients who have undergone large volume liposuction.
So I would say if all the pillars are adhered to, risk in your age is very low.
Hope this helps. Please feel free, if you have questions.
