A friend gave me some medicine she bought down in Mexico. The name of the medicine is Amoxicilina 500mg. She said it was penicillin. Should I take this for a cold and how much do I take.

it's amoxicillin. most of the illnesses going around right now are viral. antibiotics shouldn't be used for viral infection as there is no benefit. Inappropriately used antibiotics are probably the reason we are now seeing bacteria that are resistant to penicillin. It's called MRSA. Here's a link about MRSA

the short of it is, I wouldn't take an antibiotic until you have a clinical diagnosis of bacterial infection by a physician.
