Hi Obah..If your brother was only on Haldol for a short period of time, then the side effects that he is experiencing should subside and go away given time. These are called Parkinson-like side effects and usually when patients develop them, an anti-parkinsons drug is administered. I dont know if his MD would think that they may help him now or not, since he is off the drug now, but if they continue, I would certainly tell him about it. Another untoward side effect of haldol is called Tardive dyskinesis. This usually appears in persons who have been taking the medication for a long period of time. They can, however appear in any person who has been taking the medication for some time, and not always a long time. These side effects, are similar to your description of what your brother has and if his MD stopped the medicine, it was because of the appearance of these side effects. These side effects may OR may not stop when the medication is discontinued and to my knowlege if they continue after the body is free of the medication, then any treatment of these effects has proven to be not very effective. Talk with his Dr. if he continues to have these side effects and I hope that he gets better soon. Take care...Images available only to Customers.
