weight loss with hypothyroidism

i have had hypothyroidism for 7 years now and can not seem to loose weight no matter how much i watch what i eat or exercise. i have been on synthroid for 7 years( not generic).3mg.it seems like the more i try to loose weight the more i gain . if i do loose weight it is only max of 20 lbs and seem to stay right there . i need some help and suggestions
