Can a normal person that was given medicine for schizophrenia ever become normal again?

Will the side effects pass?

Someone I love has been given the drug Risperdal and now is experiencing really bad side effect such as hearing voices, paranoid, etc.

Will Risperdal have a lasting effect on him?

Can a person discontinue using Risperdal cold turkey?

Is there any thing I can do at home to help him that doesn’t consist of medication?
