I had a complete hysterectomy 14 years ago. They took everything including the cervix. I've been on Premarin ever since. I read that this medication was not meant to be taken permanently and shouldn't be taken on a permanent basis but when I try to wean myself off of it I start getting hot flashes. I'm 48 yrs old. At one point my doctor had told me that I really didn't need to have a pap test anymore because there was nothing to tak a smear from. It's expensive and I would like to get off of the drug all together. A friend of mine said that she never did take any type of hormone replacement when she had her hysterectomy. If I stop taking it all together will the hot flashes eventually stop and if so, how long (rough guesstimate) would it take.
