Its possible that this started off as a bout of food poisoning which has left your intestines in a cramping and spasming mode. I would stop the imodium now and ensure that you are drinking about 6 to 8 glasses of water each day.

You can use mebeverine 135mg three times daily or hyoscine butylbromide 10 or 20mg three times daily to relieve the cramping. Peppermint oil capsules and pepermint oil tea are also very good a relaxing the digestive tract.

I would try three or four days of using the antispasodic treatment and if the problem has not improved then see your family doctor.

If you have been abroad recently see your doctor sooner. It may also be useful to keep a food and symptom diary for the next few months in case this is the start of a wider problem such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Hope this is helpful
