DUrring harsh coughing spell, you could have ruptured a blood vessel in your lung or airway. Many times you'll also see blood in early viral infections. Bronchitis and certain strains of pneumonia may cause blood vessels in the lungs to bleed.

It is best that you make an appointment with your doctor to be evaluated. You might need a prescription cough medication and course of antibiotics.
