My father, 78 years old, has a severe red rash covering his entire body. His skn itches and is very raw, is cracking, and his body is swelling. Especially his fingers. any idea what it is?

Already Tried:
moisturizer, topical disinfectants

I am concerned about what you have already tried:
'topical disinfectants' may be causing the bulk of his condition. If he has reacted badly to this it may have changed his condition from what was initially going on. What disinfectant have you used? also any medications he is on?

He should be on pills to lower his blood pressure, but he isn't. He has not been taking any medication, although recently he took some benadryl. He has also been drinking alcohol in excess (at least 8 shots a day?) for a very long time. The topical treatment was just labeled "Anti-microbial Ointment."
