I am concerned about the amount of drugs my Dr has me
Sent to Health Experts June 14 04:56 PM

I am concerned about the amount of drugs my Dr has me taking. She just added another one. I'd like your opinion and want to make sure these are compatible!
This is what I'm taking -

Morning - 150 mg Wellbutrin XL
15 mg Buspirone HCL (just started this last week)

Evening - Seroquel Tab 200 MG l00
                  15 mg Aspirin
15 mg. Buspirone HCL (Just started this last week)

I am 54 years old. I smoke but quit drinking 9 months ago (when I started on all these drugs!) I'm in good health and am just concerned about the amount of drugs.

Thank you for your help. Lynn

I understand your concern. Hopefully you aren't experiencing any sort of worrisome side-effects currently.

From the medication list that you have provided, the only potential interaction is between seroquel and wellbutrin. Wellbutrin, if administed in high doses initially, when combined with seroquel, can increase the risk that someone might suffer from a seizure. So it is recommended that the dose of Wellbutrin be started low (as yours is at only 15 mg 2 x a day) and increased gradually. Normal adult doses for wellbutrin are near 300 mg a day, and you are currently at only 30, so your dose certainly is low.

This dosage should only be increased slowly, and you should remain aware of potential side-effects. Many people can take both of these together without any problems, but for those who are predisposed to seizure, if administered at initial high dosages without a proper, slow ramp-up of dosage, this can lead to problems. So remain aware, and make sure that the dose is only increased slowly, as necessary.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions - I'm more than happy to help. Take care - Dr. Fay

Ahh, I see. Sorry for the confusion - my apologies.

In that case, the addition of buspirone (at 15 mg, twice a day) to an already established regimen of wellbutrin, seroquel, and aspirin, shouldn't be a problem - although the recommended initial dosage of buspirone is only 7.5 mg twice a day, or 15 mg total per day. If you are experiencing any symptoms since the buspirone was initiated, then you should call your physician. But at 15 mg twice a day, this isn't a dangerous dose.

As discussed above, the only potential problem with this regimen is with the beginning of wellbutrin administration in combination with seroquel. Since you have been on wellbutrin and seroquel for quite some time, this is no longer a concern.

Sorry for the confusion, and please let me know if you have any further questions - Dr. Fay
