You say that your arteries are clear. How (and when) was this determined. What other tests have you had -- and how long ago were the tests done?

How long have you had these symptoms?

Have you been to a doctor(s) about the symptoms -- if so, what did they say?

Over time, are the symptoms becoming more frequent -- less frequent -- or staying about the same?

Have you noticed any pattern about the symptoms -- such as what makes them start/stop -- get better/worse-- become more/less frequent?

Do you have any other health problems -- if so, what are they?

What, if any supplements/vitamins/over-the-counter medications/prescription medications do you take?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Thanks for replying.

You told me about the tests, but you haven't answered my questions about your symptoms:

Steve,
Shortness of breath has been going on for almost 4 yrs. now. Becoming more pronounced. Walking at a regular place, climbing stairs, or just talking will make it start. Sitting still,(for a half hour)taking some deep breaths will start to lessen it until it stops. Only med. I take is 100mgs of atenenol. 1/2 in am, and 1/2 in pm. You now have all the info, what do I do next to fix this problem?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Four years of putting up with increasing shortness of breath is, in my book, at least 3 1/2 years too long without having a definitive diagnosis and a reasonably effective treatment.

As you know, your symptoms could indicate heart problems, lung problems, or both. This being the case, I believe you will have to have several tests (perhaps even repeats of some recent tests) in order for your doctor(s) to arrive at an accurate and definitive diagnosis.

At a minimum, I believe you would need a resting EKG, treadmill and lung function testing.

That said, I would like to run your question by a JustAnswer colleague who is a retired professor of medicine. Perhaps he will be able to suggest a more direct/simpler path to a definitive diagnosis for you.

I (or he) should be able to have more information for you by sometime tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

Steve
