I am a 57 year old woman, 10 pounds overweight, but it pretty good health. I do take 5 millagrams of a blood pressure medication, but just went through a physical including blood tests and everything came back fine. I have been experiencing leg cramps and sore muscles and don't know why. I take a daily vitamin and calcium supplement. Any ideas?

What is the name of your blood pressure medication?

How long have you had these symptoms (leg cramps)?

Have you been to a doctor(s) about the symptoms -- if so, what did they say?

Over time, are the symptoms becoming more frequent -- less frequent -- or staying about the same?

Have you noticed any pattern about the symptoms -- such as what makes them start/stop -- get better/worse-- become more/less frequent?

Do you have any other health problems -- if so, what are they?

What, if any supplements/vitamins/over-the-counter medications/prescription medications do you take?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Medication: Lisinopril 5mg
How Long: about a month and a half
No I haven't contacted my Dr. yet
Symptoms are not daily but do occur several times a week. I can't figure out what makes them start/stop.
Cramps are in my left calf and when the leg "aches" occur it is in both legs.
I have no other health problems-just recently had a physical and all blood work came back good!
I take a daily vitamin supplement and a calcium supplement.
I also take Premarin daily 0.3MG
Thank you!

Although your blood pressure medication is not a diuretic (diuretics are well-known to cause leg cramps and some people) -- Lisinopril does list muscle cramps as a side effect. Premarin does not cause leg cramps -- although it does put you it increased risks for blood clots, which would present with swelling, pain, redness, etc.

Causes of leg cramps include over-exercise and mineral (e.g. calcium, potassium, etc.) depletion.

You could try over-the-counter mineral supplements to see if they make any difference -- but I would advise that you check with your doctor -- or at least your pharmacist -- before doing so.

All of all, if your leg cramps continue, it makes sense to mention it to your doctor.
