Reply to Family Physician's Post: I am trying to lose some stubborn abdominal fat & I have seen Cortisol tablets in the store that says it helps with this.   Before I bought them I wanted to make sure I could take them when I am also taking Paxil CR 25mg daily. Thanks :)

The various pills that claim to help you lose weight by "blocking cortisol" are just plain USELESS. Don't waste your money.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has gone after a number of these companies for their false advertising.

I know that people like to look for an answer in a bottle to weight-but in reality it just isn't that simple.

Paxil and the other medications in the same class (SSRI) can have weight gain as one of their side effects. You might want to discuss the weight issue with your doctor, and see if it might be appropriate to try a different antidepressant.

WHATEVER YOU DO - DON'T STOP THE MEDICINE ON YOU OWN WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR

Some people get a withdrawal syndrome (anxiety, sweating etc) when they abruptly stop Paxil, and for that reason many physician will advise slowly reducing the dose before stopping IF THAT IS THE DECISION between you and your doctor
