I have a 1 year old daughter who has had severe constipation since she was a newborn. Her doctor has treated her with lactulose numerous times which seems to help a little but not much and as soon as she stops it she goes back to not being able to go without severe screaming and grunting trying to get it out. She now has developed a hemorrhoid, diagnosed by her doctor, and seems to be in severe pain constantly. She has been screaming bloody murder every time she tries to go. All he did was put her on lactulose again. Is there any other medication out there that may be better for her or is there maybe a more serious underlying condition I should be concerned with?   Thanks!

For hemorrhoids its best to feed fiber this will help with the constipation, the softer the stool is the easier it will be and less pain on the hemorrhoid and her stomach.

She may need a cream for the hemorrhoid have you tried talking to the doctor about some Preparation H suppositories or another suppository that she could use.

Id get some xrays possible biopsy on her stomach and make sure there is no underlying condition constipation since birth sounds like a underlying problem.

And on a personal note Id try another doctor if hes going to keep giving the same medication without results then id move on.
