Question

Sent to Health Experts July 31, 2006 7:09 p.m.

I have been smelling a scent that no one else can smell. It is very strong and doesn't go away. The only way I can describe it is, it smells like how it smells when you're breathing in anesthesia before surgery or when you've been given intrevenous medication and you smell it as it enters your blood stream. I don't feel like myself, my head doesn't feel right, light headed, not clear thinking, just not myself, weak. I don't think it's my sinuses they are very clear. What is wrong with me? I don't have insurance. I can't afford to have tests done or go to the doctor. Help!

It is possible that you are suffering from "olfactory seizures." These are caused by a discharge from a group of nerve (brain) cells that are firing inappropriately. Testing may include an MRI, CAT scan, EEG, and good neurologic physical. Some medications are effective in treating them!

You think it would be seizures if I continue smelling this smell for days on end with no break even as soon as I awake in the morning? Wouldn't it stop when the seizure stops and wouldn't I know if I were having a seizure, by passing out or something?
