My husband and I told the ER doctor he, my husband, took a handful each of the Meds and he had previous records from the hospital of related admissions and the doctor took a blood test and said it was negative and they were going to send him to their psych part of the hospital but they didn't want the risk of medical necessity, so they watched him at the progressive care unit. He was found unresponsive and then went into seizures and cardiac arrest, they revived him after an hour and he had brain damage etc. After 4 days we took the ventilator off and he died. I can't figure out why they didn't pump his stomach or something in the ER?

Blood work may have been too soon after the ingestion to have got the needed tox on him. He should have had his stomach pumped or at least IV fluids. It sounds like they dropped the ball on this and did not watch him well enough. You need to seek legal council to further check your options on this. You may have a good mal practice suit. Gross Negligence.

I am sorry to hear of the loss. And I have been busy and have not had the time to reply until now.

If I may further assist please let me know.

Reply to 4ren6's Post: Thank you for your answer, not being a medical person, I did not know what should have been done, but I expected more from the ER, I asked if he was in any harm and the Dr. said "no, we will just sent him to the Psych center." The hospital's Risk Management team is investigating my husband's stay and is going to call me for a meeting with them. I have questions but I'm not sure what all to ask. I just don't want this to happen to someone else coming into the ER, obviously it's too late for my husband but maybe I can help someone else. I am so sad this happened. The kicker is insurance doesn't pay on suicide, which is what the death certificate states.

You need to hire an attorney..............do not..........hear me........do not walk into this meeting alone................your husband may have died from malpractice and you need to hire an attorney to go to this meeting with you. Get one..........please..................they will work with you for free until settled...............you have a valid claim.

If I can assist in the future on this case then request me.
