Missed period on the pill

I am taking Mercette birth control, and I have never forgotten to take the pill. I get my period on the last part of the package, starting with the last five pills. And it has been this way ever since I started. Yesterday was the first of the last five days in this pack, and I have not gotten my period yet. I took a pregnancy test for the first time ever, and it turned out negative. Why am I not getting my period, and if I do get it soon will it mess up the timing with continuing to take the pill every day.
