Poisoned
Sent to Health Experts August 13 11:54 PM

I moved to St Petersburg, Florida, for the first 6 weeks here it was great and I felt great. But for the past 5 weeks, I feel like I have the flu all the time, I am dizzy, fatigued , feel nauseas and my head is swimming all the time. My legs have recently also started getting sore. I dont have any energy. The only thing that seems to clear me up a bit is when I go to the beach for a walk, but it does not last long. It feels like I am being poisoned, I have a metal taste in my mouth all the time. It feels like it is something I am breathing in not digesting

Janine,

You may be very sensitive to something in your house, such as new carpet. New carpet emits a chemical that many people are sensitive to.

Also, I know that in Florida there are many chemical pesticides used in homes to combat a variety of insects specific to the florida area that invade homes such as termites. If you are having your home sprayed either inside or outside, you may have a chemical sensitivity to that insecticide.

If that is the case, then I would talk to your insect managment company and sometimes just changing the type of spray that they use will cause your symtoms to go away.

I hope my helping will go a long way to resolving your health issues.

Thank you for your speedy reply.

Our home is in a complex, I went to Management, and there has been no spraying, with insecticides, in the vacinity.

I also have alot of air (burping). I have also become very pale.

If this helps, its probably something completely different but I have been itching terribly under my arm of late.

Regards
Janine

Janine,

I still wouln't rule out environmental factors. Do you play alot of golf? Most of the golf courses use heavy doses of insecticides and fertilizers much of which ends up in the ground water. That may be one consideration.

The metal taste in your mouth may be due to medications you may be taking or to dental issues. You may want to investigate that with your dentist.

Janine, the fact that these are newly acquired symptoms since you moved into your new home, makes me highly suspicious of environmental concerns. Formaldehyde in carpeting may be a cause. The symptoms that you mention are those that you may experience with formaldehyde overdose.

Hope that I have provided you with some things to think about relative to your environment and perhaps medications that you may be taking either prescribed or herbals.

I have not played golf in Florida, once, and that was before I started getting ill.

I dont have any metal filling, I had them removed and replaced with non metal ones.

Since you mentioned newly aquired symptoms. Just a bit of background info. I had the same symptoms when I lived in California. I even sold my house thinking it might be in the house. I have had all types of scans and blood tests and they showed nothing out of the ordinary. This went on for 6 years and I could not take it anymore so I went to London for a while where I cleared up completely. Everytime I went back to CA I got ill again, so I thought it was in the air there. I used to come to FL for short trips and was fine here, so naturally I thought it would be better if I moved here.

And the symptoms seemed to go away when I came down here but it only lasted for 6 or so weeks. But they are now back with and my legs ache now as well. It seems worse here, I cant keep running from this I have to find out what is wrong.

So the formaldehyde, could be a point but I was also near carpets in Europe. When I go to the beach I clear up almost immediately but on the way back I start to feel ill again.

Could it be something in the air conditioners? But that would not explain the feeling ill in CA as we rarely used them there.

Janine,

Your description of your having the problem in California and now in Florida, but not when you went to Europe convinces me that it probably is environmental.

As for the formaldehyde, there are probably more restrictions on the use of such things in Europe than there are here. I find that to be true with just about everything including the things that we eat, and the pesticides that our government allows to be used.

Janine, if you haven't already, I would consider having yourself tested for allergies. I think that that might narrow things down for you. Your description of the dizziness, fatigue, and being nauseated certainly can be the results of an allergen that your body just doesn't want to tolerate or is being exposed to entirely too much of it.

One other quick thought, if it is allergens, I would ask the question as to whether the duct work in your home has been cleaned lately. Duct work is rarely cleaned and contains alot of allergens, mites, etc.

Try seeing an allergist for complete testing and see if they don't come up with an answer for you.

When I had these symptoms in CA I had all tests done and one of them was a comprehensive test for allergies.

We seem to be both thinking along the same lines with something in the environment. When I fly to Europe I clear up almost immediately when I get on the aircraft.

So if we know, or assume it is in the environment, it could be poisoning my body. Going to a toxicologist might help but they have to know what they are looking, there are so many systems in the body that could be being compromised.

I feel so ill and I cant run anymore I have to face it now and find out what the problem is.

Janine,

With the allergy testing that you underwent, did they find anything that you were allergic to?

Since your symptoms don't include any rashes, I think I can pretty much assume that the allergen is respiratory.

Perhaps seeing an allergist in Florida would be a good idea. It may very well be that their testing of substances may be specific to your area of Florida.

They did not find anything that I was allergic to in CA. Do you think going to have allergy test over here will show anything different than the test I had before in CA?

It cant be a repsiratory allergen, I have had all the test done for that as well.

Are you starting to see my dilemma?

Janine,

I certainly do see your dilemma and we're both working hard to get it resolved.

To answer your question, I do think that re-testing in florida my discover allergens specific to your area. It may be worthwhile.

Additionally, I understand that sometimes you get the "red tide" in flordia. What I understand is, is that you don't even have to walk into the water to be effected by it. That walking along the beach can make one's respiratory system react also. Just a thought.

Please do look at the website that I forwarded to you and see if in fact you can't identify some potential environmentals substances that are causing your physical symptoms.

Pam

What is really getting me down is why I was good here for 6 weeks and all was going so well and then the CA symptoms reappeared. I dont think its "Red Tide" there has been non here since we have been here.

I am slowly trawling through the web site you sent.

Do you know what they do to the air in aircraft? I have been trying to search on the net but cant seem to find anything. If I feel fine in a aircraft maybe I can find out what the difference is to the air outside and see what substances are different.

Janine,

I don't think your answer lies in the air to the aircraft. Most of that air is recirculated! They don't bring in any clean air, that's why people who frequently fly get all kinds of repiratory illness'.

Perhaps you need to consider purchasing a good air filter/air cleansing device either on your furnace/air conditioning unit or a stand alone that sits on your floor in your room.

That might prove to be a good investment for you. Good luck!

My point exactly, what ever is in the air, that I am getting sick from, is further diluted by the recirculation. I am at the moment trying to get hold of a toxicologist, do you have any idea, what tests I could get done as there are so many.

Genova offer a whole rack of tests, but I need to speak to someone so they understand what I am going through.

Janine,

I think that if you explain your history to a toxicologist, I think they would be in the best position to recommend what tests exactly should be done.

I think that would be the best way to proceed.

Good luck Janine, I hope that you'll feel better soon.
