I am currently experiencing my second cyst type "thing" on the back of my leg close to my buttocks, they say it is a staph infection, both of them have never come to a head enough to really break or lance, but they are hard and finally this one has been lanced and the culture came back staph. I am on a sulfer anti-biotic, have taken keflex, am allergic to pennicillin. People have told me to go swim in the ocean, salt water, epsom salts in the bath, etc. Any suggestions?

Epsom salt is good. The medication will help. However if the core of this wasn't removed it can come back. If you do get them again, you can apply a warm moist compress to the area several times a day, as the heat will help draw them to a head to burst. Also there is a cream called Ichthammol, it's a drawing out suave. Just wash the area well with antibacterial soap, apply the cream and cover with a band-aid, doing this 2x a day. If you don't already, you may want to use an antibacterial soap all the time, such as Lever, which is good.

Don't ever try to pop them yourself or squeeze them, as this can cause further infection and cause the infection to go further. It's a bad location where they are, as sitting can cause your clothing to rub on that area as well. So try to wear form fitting clothing that will not rub your skin on that area. Do complete the antibiotics you were given and just see how that goes.

Best of luck, Hope this helps, If you need anything else please feel free to ask. If you found this helpful don’t forget to click the *ACCEPT* button and leave *POSITIVE* feedback.

Reply to Lindie's Post: Thanks! I have been doing the warm compresses and I got some liquid soap called hibiclens at the drug store (over the counter) Now this cream you mention, is that over the counter too? How do you get such an infection, is it through contact with someone or something? Thanks for your help again! My first time at Just Answer!

You are welcome.. and I do hope I make your first time here a good experience.

The soap you got is good too. The cream I mention is OTC as well. If you can't find it, ask your pharmacist, as our Walmart here, carries it in the back.

You can get this infection from someone if you came in direct contact. However, it can just occur from an infected hair follicle, or deep poor that got infected, where dead skin cells fester and the cyst will occur. The warm weather, sweating, those that have other problems such as diabetes, etc. So it can just happen, which doesn't mean you are not staying clean or anything like that. It is more popular in people that are middle age. But with you only having two and you are treating the infection and using the soap, you should be OK. It's not a guarantee, but it does help. The main thing is just don't squeeze them at all. As so many people like to do this, and it actually makes things worse.

Hope this helps Hun.

Reply to Lindie's Post: Thanks AGAIN! I did not mention but I do have type II diabetes, I take pills for it. Blood level A1C test 3 months ago was great! A little "off" this summer though, am getting back on track, and yes the HEAT, the sweating etc does not help. I will try and get the cream and Epsom salts tomorrow!
