My daughter who is eight in the past month has begun an involuntary head twitch primarly in her neck. Motion is up to down like a quick and involuntary yes movement.

Hi

Your daughter has a tic.

These are common in chldren (5-25% of all kids get them.)

They are worse during periods of emotional distress and absent during sleep.

They usually last 4 weeks but less than 12 months.

The best thing to do is to pay them no attention as this often re-inforces the tic and makes it worse.The tic often irriates the parent or sometimes it is a symptom of anxiety or bullying.

If severe or causing distress medication is
sometimes used.
