I'm sorry you have not conceived yet, despite your interventions and their possible complications. Most injectable hormone medications site long term weight increase as a frequently repported side effect with treatment whether pregnancy is acheived or not. This is related to an appetite stimulating factor, stress factors related to fertility treatment, fatigue and bloating often seen as direct side effects of treatment and leading to decrease in activity levels and metabolism, and the self fulfilling prophecy of those whose see weight gain as inevitable in fertility treatment. Depending on the treatment used, your response to the hormone, and length of treatment, long term changes in hormone secretion may have been stimulated which may affect metabolism, activity levels, appetite and other factors directly related to chronic weight increase. Though testing including hormone levels, thyroid function and fasting blood sugar may reveal a relevant variation, but the majority of women are able to lose weight normally with exercise, and calorie restriction/portion control changes in diet. These conditions, even if precipitated by fertility treatment would benefit from traditional treatment, and this may have a positive affect on weight loss efforts. Otherwise, diet and exercise are the only true answers. Though you are the only judge of any depression or frustration you have suffered related to the fertility treatment and ineffectiveness to date. Some women benefit from support or counseling, which may have a positive affect on weight and body image as well. Whether it is a support group, online chat, or private counselor, most women acknowledge the value of networking on some level with people who know our paths and can offer experience and empathy (not sympathy!). In certain circumstances patients seek a therapist to provide a safe and non-biased forum for venting and expression. Ivillage offers a forum at:

provides resources for support, information and resources related to fertility treatments and their complications

If review of diet and exercise does not reveal more calories in than calories out then a metabolic affect or fluid imbalance must be behind weight gain. You may begin by using :
1. http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/dee
to calculate how many calories you use live on. It takes a deficit of 3500 calories, (or expenditure of these calories through exercise). If you do not see any weight loss despite a documented calorie deficit get your thyroid, and other hormones checked.

In an effort to gain control over portions (or get motivated to exercise), acupuncture is considered an effective alternative intervention. Acupuncture, a 5000 year old Chinese art is safe and non-addictive and is reported to be effective for treatment for disruptions in proper body function. The goals for weight loss may include improved overall mood and well being, appetite suppression and increased metabolic rate.
An acupuncture physician determines-based on root causes of weight gain, which points should be used for each treatment. This assessment will look at issues of fat distribution, emotional status, eating habits and mood. Carefully choosing a reputable specialist is important since effective treatment calls for accurate technique and this is an invasive technique calling for good hygiene technique and clean equipment. The insertion of the hair like needles stimulates a natural release of endorphin, the body's own "feel-good" pain-relieving chemicals. It may be that one way acupuncture weight loss treatments help control appetite is by releasing endorphin. It's effects are mostly secondary so it should be included as part of an overall plan. A personal trainer and diet advisor is also excellent for focusing efforts and identifying stalling issues. This and support related help in dieting is said to have the highest correlation with long term significant success. I have also used yoga myself including yoga Nidre or image guidance yoga to focus efforts and improve mood. (I've lost 178 pounds total) The calories I burn are limited but it affects my appetite and well being.

A good supplement plan, including a multi-vitamin and essential fatty acids, and potential weight loss promoting supplements such as green tea extract, biotin, chromium and hoodia can stimulate weight loss, energy, mood and temporarily suppress appetite. Soy protein has been shown to regulate hormones, especially estrogen and improve digestion and metabolism overall. Read labels and be cautious but the body seems to use these nutrients in the process and these positive steps in the right direction may be enough to get some momentum.

I rely on the math when the weight loss stalls. I can read the numbers, know the rate I burn and ingest calories and can allow other fluctuations to fade next to other improvements and the promise of the eventual reward

Diet pills whether prescription or OTC are short term in effectiveness and should be approached with caution due to their potential for abuse, stimulant effects and potentional risks involved. The OTC supplements number in the hundreds, though all without any big secrets, and most just like each other. I take a supplement made for dieting women to replace the nutrients I miss out on however (Weight Smart). This is a regular daily vitamin with higher levels of certain nutrients and green tea, and helpful if you are planning a strict program. The products containing Hoodia are currentl claing higher success than other supplement but I have heard only second and stories.

Now the biggies. There are prescription diet pills available which may be prescribed by a Family Physician. Most require monthly or biweekly visits while on the medication to verify progress, and check blood pressure. Most are stimulants of varying strength but may be safely prescribed to supress appetite, while ideally improving eating habits long term. Stimulants being prescribed currently include Phentermine, Didrex, Tenuate Dospan, Bontril and Meridia. Meridia is reported to be milder but provide less appetite suppression. Xenical is the one being market with an entirely different mechanism of action. Xenical blocks approx 30%fat that you eat from being absorbed by your body. The downside being it's eventual reappearance. This may create various gastrontestinal side effects and patients can still mange dietary imbalances that stall weight loss.

Your local Doctor may prescribe a diet pill for short term benefits, or you may seek a local diet center advertising a "medically supervised" diet plan. Read all literature on whatever drug considered, and verify any diet center or Physician is reputable and in good standing with the board. Good luck-hope it helps!
