I am having a horrible spell with hemroids. I am on a precription of cortizone supporities and have been for about a month, but it doesn't seam to help. My docotor is telling me to just continue useing them, but the pain is about to drive me nuts. Is there anything else I can do before resorting to surgery??? Please tell me there is something else to try,

Thank you
Bridgett

It is time to see a specialist in the field who will be aware of the best available treatments and willing to apply them. Beyond medication treatments become more invasive but also more effective and still limited to office and outpatient procedures.

Injection sclerotheraphy involves closing the vein and shrinkage of tissue by injecting certain chemicals in the mucus membrane of the affected area. This rplaces the tissue with scar tissue and is most effective in treating bleeding and itching.

A procedure called rubber band ligation is another option sometimes used together with injection therapy.   The band causes the hemorrhoid to wither and drop off painlessly. The treatment is usually applied to one hemorrhoid at a time at intervals of 2 weeks or longer.

Infrared photocoagulation uses an infrared light on the dilated vein to cause the hemorrhoid to shrink.

Sophisticated laser technology is now being employed to minimize the pain on hemorrhoid surgery.   The lasars allow very precise and accurate removal of lesions and are used to minimize bleeding. Though it is surgery the procedure often results in a shorter healing periods than the less invasive procedures.

I have heard a strong advocacy for elimination of gluten from the diet not only for pevention but as part of an alternative treatment plan.
