Sciatic pain in left leg

Sent to Health Experts September 05 02:04 PM

My 77 yr old father is having debilitating pain in his left leg. He has been told that he has arthritis in his lumbar vertebrae and it is pressing on his sciatic nerve. The pain is so severe that it impairs his walking ability. The GPs have told him that there is nothing that can be done for it ...it is part of aging. My father leads an otherwise productive life. Please tell me he does not have to live with this pain for the rest of his years. Who is the best practitioner/therapist to deal with this problem? It was suggested to me that a physiotherapist with FCAMT qualifications can help him...is this a viable option?
