This can be caused by certain medications that "thin" the blood in various ways such as aspirin, plavix, coumadin and others such as Pepcid. It can also be caused by liver disease since the liver is one of the organs that helps to maintain the proper levels of blood components. Bone marrow performance can be the problem since that is where many of the blood cells are either formed or signaled to be formed. You would need to see the doc to go over the medicines that you are taking and to review some simple blood tests. It may be necessary to do a "bone marrow biopsy" where a needle is inserted into the hip or the breastbone to remove a small amount of the bone marrow for testing.

What meds are you on; if you like I will look them up to see if it could be caused by one of them.

Benicar has a side effect of blood in the urine, but I believe it is related to kidney damage, not a bleeding disorder.
Aspirin does "thin the blood" and make the chance of bleeing higher.
The others do not seem to be a problem with bruising, nor with liver disease.
As we get older (not old) - we do tend to bruise a bit easier, but if this seems different all of a sudden, then I would say it is not the normal process we go through!
I would talk to the doc about the aspirin and perhaps about getting some of the blood tests that I had mentioned earlier. If you have bleeding in the bowel or bloody urine please go to the emergency room!
