Hello and Welcome to Just Answer,

Can you tell me if the doctors did a culture on the urine to find out what kind of antibiotic he needs?

Thank you,

After they took the culture, they should have sent it off for about 72 hours. In that time, it will grow and then the doctors can find out exactly what type of antibiotics your husband should be one. Did they do this too?

Ok this is what is missing. To know exactly what antibiotic needs to be given, the doctor needs to send it off to the lab to be grown. He may have given your husband antibiotics that he thought would work. The lab results may still be on file and need to be looked at to see exactly what antibiotic your husband needs. There are all types of bacteria, and each one has a certain medication that it needs to get rid of it. So you may want to call your doctor and ask him if he got the "culture and sensitivity" report back for your husband. That is what it is called and your doctor or any profession in the health field will know what that means. But, what I am thinking is that your doctor started him on antibiotics until the final report came in and then he would make sure he was giving him the right one. I just don't know why he didn't check, but this has to be done.

Thank you,
Pam Russell RN
