It is now the 4th day after colposcopy and feel pelvic pressure with interminnent sharp lower abdomen pain, nausea and bloating. It this normal after this test or should I be concerned?

I think your symptoms might very well be related to the antibiotics, not the colposcopy. Mild abdominal pain, nausea and bloating were reported in clinical trials of levaquin in a small percentage of patients. Since it is an antibiotic, as well, it can also have a bit of an adverse effect on the "healthy" bacteria that normally reside in our colon/intestine. When these are killed off by the antibiotic, certain foods are harder to digest, and they can produce gas and bloating, and mild pain. Over a few days, these bacteria do repopulate the intestine, so long term, generally, this isn't a problem. But in the short term, levaquin can produce these symptoms.

Biopsy can also produce as mild abdominal discomfort afterward. This should reduce over time relatively quickly.

You didn't mention if you have any bleeding (I also assume not). So long as you aren't bleeding, and your symptoms start to improve, you should be fine. You can try, if you wish, a lactobacillus preparation (this is available in pill form and other forms, at most health-food stores) - these bacteria can help restore the normal balance of bacteria in the gut.

If your symptoms worsen, then get to an emergency department. But I imagine that you will start to feel better soon.

Also, always take a medication as prescribed. They have side-effects, and the longer you take them, the more pronounced they can become.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions - I'm more than happy to help.

Take care - Dr. Fay

Thank you for your immediate reply. The pelvic pressure was present before starting Levaquinn and the sharp abdominal pain started after Colposcopy. I also have chills. Can this still be drug related?
