colon resections complications
Sent to Health Experts October 01 07:33 PM

My uncle was diagnosed with colon cancer and three weeks ago underwent a partial colon resection to remove the tumor. He is now experiencing severe diarrhea and appears to be markedly dehydrated. His MD prescribed Flagyl to kill any bacteria but he has only been on this medication for 3 days. Should he drink some pedialyte to get his electrolytes back up and also I suggested he drink some glucerna to help with his weight loss. He is down to 124#'s. Each time he eats anything, it moves right through immediately. Is there anything else he can do to boost his absorption of his food?

You may try Pedialyte to help with hydration. I would avoid milk - because it can cause the diarrhea get worse. Some people find that eating yougart with live culture can be helpful. Activa is a brand that I have tried, good tasting, nice texture. There are other brands - make sure it has live culture.
