I have had indigestion for 2 days, it's not only just in my chest but in my stomach area, back and under my ribs and it hurts really bad. I took antacids and nothing is working, even water is aggrevating it. Should I go to the ER to have it checked out or will it soon pass. Very uncomfortable and accompanied by diahrea.

It's hard to say if this indeed will "soon pass" on its own, so you might want to be seen either at an urgent care clinic or the emergency room

"indigestion", chest/rib pain, and diarrhea can actually be caused by a number of different things. One is most certainly acid reflux, and by trying antacids, it seems like you think this might be the cause. While antacids can help some cases of reflux, other cases require medications (perhaps over the counter, like pepcid, or prilosec, etc.) or other prescribed meds. Sometimes ulcers can be involved, as well, and these can very often require medications.

Stomach pain and diarrhea can also be cause by infection (viral, bacterial, etc.), problems with the gall bladder and liver, kidney, and others. So there are many potential causes, depending on your exact symptoms.

So you should have it checked out. They will be able to work this up, and determine what exactly is the cause, and then institute some treatment.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions - I'm more than happy to help.

Take care - Dr. Fay
