Hopefully this sounds familiar to someone. i recently noticed that I feel a reasonable amount of discomfort when standing after sitting for a while. At times this causes me to favor or limp for the first few steps. The pain seems to be at the front top of my thighs Also I expierience this discomfort when standing for a while. Walking doesn't seem to help or make it any worse.

You are having pain due to inadequate circulation to your lower extremities especially noticeable when you stand up after sitting down for awhile. This is usually due to peripheral vascular disease. Reduced circulation can cause ischemia of the vastus intermedius which is the muscle beneath the larger rectus femoris muscle. When you are sitting then the blood vessels and nerves are constricted and circulation to the muscle is decreased which causes pain when you stand up because the sensory nerves are rapidly perfused with blood. The longer you stand the more blood perfuses the muscle and the sensory nerves. Conservative treatment includes exercise programs, avoid tobacco use, and eliminate any lipoprotein and/or cholesterol abnormality. Trental is a medication that might be beneficial. In any case I recommend that you have your lower extremity circulation checked initially by an ultrasound and if necessary an arteriogram.
