I am suffering from tinnitus and I have a headache. I know I should not take aspirin, but I have also read not to take Tylenol. Keep in mind I want to stay away from caffiene. Is there anything I can take that won't make the ringning worse?

Hello Dr. Munjal-My BP is good, usually around 110/75. My pulse is around 70-75. No nausea or vomiting. The pain, that is the ringing, is not severe, just very bothersome, especailly when I lie down, making sleep difficult at times. The headache is only 30 minutes old. No hypertension. I have had sinusitis, but that was 18 months ago. Neck feels fine.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

The most common medication for usual tension type head ache includes NSAIDS .( Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) . But drugs that commonly cause or increase tinnitus includes NSAIDS (motrin, naproxen, relafen, etc) and aspirin and other salicylates .

As such if you can try to manage your head ache without a pain killer by external measures like massage , relaxation, rest it would be ideal .

As such there are more then 200 medicines which can cause increase in ringing associated with tinnitus .
