Question

I will be 50 next month. In April I had my period.

Sent to Health Experts May 28, 2006 10:51 a.m.

I will be 50 next month. In April I had my period. Then I went about 45 days without one. Then it started up again but very light. My periods have been very heavy. But when I started again it stopped for about a day and then came lightly again. Could I be going through the change? And how long will this last? Or could there be another problem?
Thank you
Linda

If you go by your age, then yes it is very possible that menopause is the cause for this. It can actually last months to a few years, everyone is different. However I would suggest seeing your doctor as a blood test can confirm this and give you a better idea where in the menopause cycle you may be.

Other wise there can be several cause, Examples; stress, weight gain/loss, medication, illness, climate, cyst, or polyp of the cervix, hormonal imbalance, thyroid, infection.. just to name a few.

Without a proper exam it would be hard to pin point the exact cause. Do call your doctor for an exam to determine the exact cause.

Hope this helps, If you need anything else please feel free to ask. If you found this helpful don’t forget to click the *accept* button!
