I am a 41 yr old healthy mother of 4 (10yr,8yr,5yr an 22 month old)   6yrs ago I had a baby die in utero at 6 months pregnant due to trisomy syndrom (Non Genetic). I have always had a 28 day cycle since I started my period at 15 yrs old. My pregnancies were vaginal deliveries except my 22 month old who was an emegency C-section. The last 6 months (for the first time ever) I have switched to a 26 day cycle,I have always had uneventful periods lucky I knew it was there no cramps normal bleeding for 4 days. My last period was on May 1 2006 i was due for my period May 27 2006 it has yet to come not spotting or nothing. I am having cramping as if I have a good period some zingers in the ovarie areas no dischagre no oder and some lower back pain.........I AM NOT PREGNANT! Can this be menopause? My Grandmother went into meno pause at 38 my mom at 42 and my sister at 40. Can this be some other health issue? Sinercerly Eileen

It can be a sign of menopause starting. However, there are several things that could cause this. Examples; stress, weight gain/loss, medication, illness, climate, cyst, or polyp of the cervix, hormonal imbalance, thyroid, infection.. just to name a few.

Without a proper exam it would be hard to pin point the exact cause. Your doctor can do a full blood work up, which will also tell him if this is due to menopause and where at in the stage of menopause you may be.
